The support that I have on a daily basis is the support from my family. When I need any type of assistance my family is there for me in which I am very grateful for. Another support system I have are my co-workers. My co-workers and I assistance each on within the work place and in our personal lives. For me enrolling into Walden University Master's program have provided me with educational support to further my career in the education field. If I did not have my undergraduate degree I would not have the position as ECE Specialist today. To me, without education your future maybe undetermined. Prior to me enrolling into school I had no support or resources on continuing my education until a co-worker said me to she is completing her Master's at Walden University,
I do not feel I have support from my community until I disclose my profession then the other professionals start to seek my assistance. Really? Yes, really. I come to terms people have biases and when I have the opportunity to explain how their have no merit and explain to these professionals how to look at situations from a different point of view then my work is complete.
Brittney,
ReplyDeleteOur support systems are similar. My family has been very supportive even more so now since I started my journey here at Walden. Having support in the workplace make a huge difference. I have worked in places where I felt I was all alone and if I asked for help it was like I was bothering them. Since starting here at Walden, I have developed many supportive relationships and we all push each other to be successful.
I really enjoyed your post!

Brittney,
ReplyDeleteSimilar to your situation, I also was directed to Walden by a Co-Worker. During my first few years at my current job, I felt I didn't have the support of my coworkers. During that time, I dreaded going to work. It wasn't until a few years later that I began to feel comfortable at work and feel supported.
If I may ask, what type of community do you live in? Why do you feel you aren't getting their support? If those people are only willing to respect or acknowledge you after you disclose your profession, then they aren't worth your time.
I live in the North GA area. This area is not diverse like Atlanta Ga. Yes there are times when I would say they aren't worth my time but the main question is who will teach them? I dealt with this issue for a long time and finally realize why i am here- to help educate and be an advocate for ALL the children.
DeleteBrittney,
